Moving tips from the pros
Simple steps to make your relocation smooth, organized, and stress‑free.
Give yourself at least 6–8 weeks before a local move and 8–10 weeks for long‑distance. Create a master timeline with key dates: booking, packing, utility transfers, and final walk‑through. Early planning reduces last‑minute chaos.
Go room by room and separate items into keep, donate, sell, and discard piles. Less stuff means lower moving costs and less packing time. Hold a garage sale or use online marketplaces to lighten your load.
Use a permanent marker to label every box with its destination room and a brief content description. Consider color‑coded stickers for each room. This helps our crew place boxes exactly where they belong, speeding up unpacking.
Set aside a box or suitcase with items you'll need immediately: toiletries, a change of clothes, chargers, medications, important documents, and basic kitchen supplies. Keep it with you during the move.
Before disconnecting TVs, computers, or audio systems, snap a photo of the cable setup. This makes reconnecting easy and reduces frustration after the move.
Update your address with the post office, banks, insurance providers, and subscription services. Schedule utility transfers at both locations at least two weeks before move day. Don't forget to update your driver's license and voter registration.
Large furniture may not fit through narrow hallways or elevators. Measure your largest pieces and compare with the dimensions of doors, stairways, and elevators at your new home. Inform our team in advance if there are any potential obstacles.
Defrost your refrigerator 24 hours before the move. Disconnect and drain washing machines. Secure loose items and clear pathways. Have parking permits ready if your area requires them. A little preparation goes a long way.
